Bois D’Arc is extremely hard to find in any quantity. It is also very expensive. The trees typically do not grow large or with massive trunks. They are commonly known as Osage Orange or Hedge trees and tend to grow more like a giant shrub or bush, with many branches everywhere. The wood when freshly machined is bright yellow and extremely hard. It is also considered insect proof and very rot resistant in an exterior application. With time the wood darkens to a deep brown with UV light exposure. It can be used to make an excellent bow, thus it’s French name Bois D’Arc. We use it as an inlay wood and usually stain it to mask the color change that will inevitably occur.
