Birch, specifically yellow birch, has significant color variations. Often it contains dark mineral streaks and discolorations that make staining evenly difficult. The slight variations in the density and grain directions tend to make the stained product a bit “blotchy”. It has a very muted grain throughout. It is also a bit more unstable and prone to warping when used as cabinet doors. We recommend using a substitute in those situations such as soft maple.
