We are one of the few places where you can get "rope" turnings.  Our technique allows us to create nearly any "rope" design from a mere 1 1/2 inch diameter, all the way up to 13 inches in diameter.  And right or left handed rotations are available.  See our Youtube video links below of one "rope" turning project.

When turning large, slender, columns, we will often build a staved blank to work with.  Our machining process creates 8 identical parts that are assembled using an interlocking cut, creating a long. hollow octagonal cylindrical shape.  After glue and sufficient clamping time, we place a temporary plug in each end that allows us to fix the blank into our lathe for turning.

Pictured is a 15 foot version of a staved column in the process of machining.

An additional capability that we use often in our lathe work is the ability to flute and bead a lathe turning to any profile.  Pictured is a turning that displays both a small, straight fluted section coupled with a much longer curved, beaded section.
