White Oak is a generic term for a variety of wood species related to each other. The grains are less pronounced than in red oak, and generally closer together. White oak is hard and very durable and is often used for bending when strength is an absolute necessity, such as wagon wheels years ago. Generally, it has a light tan color, and accepts stain nicely. When a customer walks in and requests oak cabinetry, we always recommend white oak. The final product has a much more overall “furniture” type look.
