Lacewood generally comes from Australia. Its unique beauty is displayed when quarter sawn. It is not generally used as a cabinet or furniture wood except as an accent or inlay. Sanding can be extremely challenging in that the unique grain pattern exposes wide areas of soft and hard textures in the wood surface. Sanding with anything other than a large machine sander, tends to dig into the soft areas and leave the hard areas a minute fraction higher, resulting in a slightly wavy surface.
